Virginia Castillo, affectionately known as Virgie, was able to soak up the diverse and colorful culture of the Caribbean. Entirely self taught, over the years, she has developed her won style. The everyday scenes of her world are painted in vivid colors. Her subject matter often appears as a familiar face, house or a local "barrio" in whatever mediums and materials are available. She has worked in mixed media, needle work, acrylics, watercolors, oils, dyes or ink.
Born in the coastal town of La Ceiba, Honduras, Virgie was able to soak up the diverse and colorful culture of the Caribbean. Entirely self taught, over the years, she has developed her own style. The everyday scenes of her world are painted in vivid colors. Her subject matter often times appears as familiar face, house or a local "barrio" in and around the North Coast or Bay Islands of Honduras. She works in whatever mediums and materials available. She has worked in mixed media, needle work, acrylics, watercolors, oils, dyes, or ink. But the one thing that never changes is her source of inspiration, the quiet thing that never changes is her source of inspiration, the quiet thing that never changes is her source of inspiration, the quiet strength of her island "sisters". Virginia explains her artistic approach as, " I just simply look out the window and paint what I see".
